Our Funding Process

The Short Film Otago application process is in two stages.  Stage one is open to anyone who meets our eligibility criteria.  Stage two will be open to those who are shortlisted in stage one.

 Stage One - Script Submission

At stage one a writer can apply with a script, or a short outline or synopsis.  Production teams can apply with a script and some additional information.  Submissions will be assessed based on the quality of the script or synopsis and its suitability for Short Film Otago’s project.

Up to six projects will be shortlisted from stage one and invited to apply for stage two.

At its discretion the Short Film Otago Trust Board may shortlist additional projects to apply for Stage Two.

  • Additional Support Material (up to four A4 pages, if needed)

Stage Two – Production Funding Application

The teams invited to apply for stage two will receive a development grant and will be invited to a development workshop.  They will also be paired with a mentor who will advise and assist with script development.

Teams will be required to make an application for production funding.  These applications will be assessed on the quality of the proposed film and the credibility of the team’s production plan.

At its discretion the Short Film Otago Trust Board may invite teams from the previous script round to submit their stage two production funding application (these teams will not receive a development grant).
